Guest LAKEMAN Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Hi there, I'm just about to purchase a Galaxy Ghia 05, But I've found out they didn't fit front swivel seats as standard from 05 onwards, Does anyone know if it is possible to change the seats to swivel by either buying new seats or an adapter kit maybe. I used to own a VW caravelle and it was possible to buy a plate that fitted between the seat and the runners. If not I understand I can pay fords Quote
Chilli Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Hi Lakeman I've just purchased a 55 plate galaxy ghia. It was 5months old and both front seat swivel. If that is of any help. Steve Quote
johnb80 Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Don't bother, theyre a complete and utter waste of time and money on a Galaxy. I used to have a MKII Espace and the swivel seats were superb for picnic's etc. The Gal doesn't compare, no room when the seats are turned round, awkward to swivel the drivers seat. Save yer money. Regards - JB Quote
NikpV Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Couldn't disagree more, in the winter we often use the Gal for post walk picnics, the kids will often opt for these rather than mcdonalds :D they love the seats swivelled around couple of middle row seats down (better to take out rear left middle seat then 4 month old can lay on a blanket sfter his dinner) :D :P Quote
mumof4 Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 I must say that in the years weve had our car...weve never swivelled the front seats. Quote
bigdaddy Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Got to agree with john80,,,,the espace swivel seats where superb,,,,,,the galaxy seats are a pain in the behind to swivel,,, Quote
MrT Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 It is even more embarrassing when you are not sitting in the drivers seat and try to swivel it, pull the height adjustment lever by mistake (can you remember which lever is which?) and the seat shoots up and hits you in the face. The kids found it very amusing. Quote
Guest LAKEMAN Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 nikpv, I think we are both on the same wave length here, Thats exactly what I want them for. I used to have a VW cARAVELLE, I fitted swivels in that, I sold here a year ago, and realy miss the days out and picnic, so thats why I want a galaxy with swivels, Thanks for your comments, will keep looking. bigdaddy Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 What you on about,,,,,,,,SAME WAVELENGTH,,,,,,,,,, You asked us our opinion about adapting your seats to swivel or purchase them from Ford,,,,,,most of who replied told you they are a waste of time in the galaxy,,,,,THATS OUR OPINION Quote
bigdaddy Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Yes you are right mo4 ,,,,,,, he was talking to nikpv :) I am on the same wavelength,,,,I used the swival seats in my espace every time we went out to the boat or picnics. :) But the seats in the galaxy do not swival easily, 99% the time I dont know why I attempted to swival the seats,,,,,,,move all the way back swival a little bit,,,move them forward swival a little bit more,,move them back a little to swival a little more,,,oooopps just tore the material on the seat from the a-pillar,,hang on move forward a little again to swival a little bit more,,,,,ooooooohhh bugger i give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( :( Thats the opinion most of us where trying to put over,,,,,,,,,,,,,THEY ARE A WASTE OF TIME Sorry,,,,,,I am away for a drink,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,anybody coming :) Quote
Another?Maybe! Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 I agree, waste of time (& the money to include them whether you want(ed) them or not. Never used them on my Gal...mind you there are usually only 2 of us in it! I have one for its versalitity, its ability to become a Transit van when required, especially on those booze runs to France, or for taking accumulated rubbish to the tip. Plus the wonderful comfort & effortless driving ability, of course. P. Quote
Guest whiterosessom Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Swivel seats !!!!!!!!!! What a waste of time in the Galaxy's. Nothing like as good as what was in our old Espace. I tried turning the seat a couple of weeks ago & they're so awkward to get round, it's not worth the effort. I finshed with a few broken wires form the heated seat as they got tangled in the swivel mechanism under the seat. I then had to start putting the wires together before the wife complained that her rear end & back were getting cold. We'll not go to the trouble of turning the seat's again. Quote
Andrew T Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Agreed they're a pain to swivel, but occasionally they prove their worth. We were camping in the Dales last Autumn with another family. Having worn the kids out and got them in bed commendably early we settled down to a spot of refreshment outside the tent. Within minutes we were bitten by every midge in Yorkshire. So we swivelled the front seats around, put two of the seats into the boot and folded the middle one down for the drinkies. By opening the rear vents we could hear if the kids woke up without the midges coming in. As we sat their quaffing I said that we must look like something out of a Galaxy brochure, but my wife pointed out that anyone in a brochure would be better looking, a lot better dressed and wouldn't be knocking their way through a selection of Morrisons "100 wines for under Quote
NikpV Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Yeah seats came into their own today - 4 kids +2 adults - chucking it down at wicksteed park today http://www.npkjlvenn.demon.co.uk/seatssw.jpg Quote
Masked Marauder Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 I am seriously considering getting a hold of a couple of swivel bases and fitting them to my car. Quote
Bigjeeze Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 Went to Longleat today with my wife and three sons - Used the swivels - they were great. Hardly ever use them but when you do they are brilliant - a littel difficult but not impossible. Quote
mumble_bee Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 marauder I have 1 driver seat of the grey beige colour - from my old interior and I have 7 seats including the 2 front swivels.. in another mistaken purchase from a mk1.. if you're interested. I'm in luton, beds. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 I don't think my budget could stretch to 7 seats chap. I am just after the swivel bases to fit onto my seats. I was thinking of a trip over to Daventry to see what they had in the breakers yard. Quote
mumble_bee Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 nps only wanted 200 squid for the 7  pity tho , cause last week I had the base for the passenger side (which I chucked) as well. ** I'm not a breaker ** fyi- just lots of stuff left over from my re-doing my own. Quote

NikpV Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 well what weather did you expect in kettering its dull there even on a sunny day Actually we aim for a Dull day - turn up at 9.30, 1 hour play in the park for the kids - rides til 1 picnic till 2 last few rides gone by 3.00 - kids get more rides that way, not too busy. steve67car Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 missis takes the kids there quite alot they love it so you local to it then(give or take 20 miles) Quote
NikpV Posted April 16, 2006 Report Posted April 16, 2006 so you local to it then(give or take 20 miles) About 45 mins away - gives the kids a chance doze/unwind before we get home    :P :D Quote
jkspoff Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 With kids they are really useful, as the piccy before shows, I very rearely use them, but good to have them for the odd rainy picnic occasion, I would certainly make sure that any future Gal or equivalent has them. The main problem I find is that when the drivers seat is turned around and the child locks are on the back doors, its awkward to get out ! The multimedia Gals don't have them for obvious reasons.
